Technical Project Manager

PHYTEC America is looking for a Technical Project Manager to join the team in downtown Seattle. The ideal candidate for this position enjoys a fast paced development environment, bringing a project from specification to success, triaging problems, and working across many departments. 

Position Summary:

Technical Project Managers at PHYTEC are responsible for planning, organizing, and successfully leading customer-specified embedded hardware and software development projects. This position also brings skills in leadership, problem analysis, critical thinking, conflict management and risk management. An ideal candidate will be comfortable leading a multi-disciplined engineering team, managing complex timelines and schedules, and reporting project status to department heads. 

Technical Project Managers will be responsible for working with customers and PHYTEC engineering teams to establish a project specification, resource allocation estimation, schedule and deliverables and making sure the customer's design and schedule requirements are met. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal departments and customers to define project requirements and produce a specification
  • Determine schedules and deliverables that meet customer's requirements and expectations
  • Monitor risks to schedule and project viability through subsequent project stages
  • Manage a multi-disciplined engineering team, complex timelines and schedules, and customer expectations
  • Manage customer's expectations and communicate project status
  • Organize, document and maintain the project plan including scope, schedule, time and materials budgets, and risk management
  • Report project status to department heads and customer stakeholders
  • Monitor progress to plan and design a recovery strategy if project deviates from baseline plan
  • Support project transitions to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
  • Track and monitor project status and all deliverables, utilizing SCRUM, Agile and other methodologies 
  • Conduct retrospectives on completed projects to support process, policy and tool-set improvements
  • Collaborate with peers, managers and team members across the organization to solve problems, develop plans and coordinate work
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively, written and verbally, with customers, internal staff, and management
  • Develop a project schedule and defined critical paths
  • Design and document a project Scope of Work that includes requirements, specifications, deliverables, and resource costs
  • Apply critical thinking techniques to analyze problems, develop solutions, build resource forecasts and manage risk
  • Use either Waterfall or Agile methods to handle projects which may comprise both software and hardware
  • Independently manage cross-functional teams
  • Lead and facilitate team meetings and initiatives to effectively develop plans and achieve goals
  • Role may require being “on call” periodically or working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Duties may require international travel to China, Germany, Mexico, and Canada

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience managing complex product development cycles
  • Knowledge and understanding of Atlassian development and content management tools (JIRA, Confluence)
  • Exceptionally strong problem solving and negotiating skills
  • Ability to provide leadership, supervision and direction to peers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including meeting facilitation and process implementation
  • Experience writing Scope of Work and Non-Recurring Engineering proposals and work documents
  • Experience working with Product Development groups designing hardware and software
  • Experience working in a business involved in electronics manufacturing
  • PMP certification with accompanying experience leading projects
  • Agile SCRUM Master certification or experience working Agile

Qualification:

  • BA or MA in Business, Engineering, or Computer Science or other Engineering Technology collegiate degree
  • Minimum 4 years' experience managing technical projects
  • Proven success in bringing technical projects to production
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
